JAKARTA - Rapper Mo3 was shot dead in broad daylight on Wednesday, November 11 in Dallas, Texas, United States. He died at the age of 28.

The singer, whose real name is Melvin A. Noble, was shot several times and eventually died in the hospital.

Police, quoted by Antara from People on Thursday, said the alleged shooter was chasing Mo3 while strafing the rapper with a rifle as Mo3 fled out of the car they were in.

The perpetrator, whose identity has not been successfully identified, has the characteristics of a black man who "escaped in a dark sedan."

A pedestrian was also injured in the gunshot incident and he was rushed to hospital but his injuries were not serious.

The police are currently investigating the motives of the perpetrators.

Police spokesman Sgt. Warren Mitchell told the Dallas Morning News that the culprit was completely out of action given the number of people passing by in the area and they could have been hurt.

"I don't know a better word to describe it than 'insolent'. I mean, in broad daylight (with) a few cars around."

According to the Dallas Morning News, there has been an increase in homicides in Dallas. Last year, 177 murders were reported, while this year there were 211 cases.

Mo3 told Flaunt magazine in March that he hoped his music would carry a message of hope.

"The black community and the Hispanic community, we face a lot of poverty and struggle. I give a message, I give hope," he said. "I'm a rapper, but you can do whatever you want. You're not limited to one thing. I preach it. Whether it's my story or the story of the next person, they'll feel me. They can relate."

The rapper is best known for his song Errybody (Remix) - a collaboration with Boosie Badazz. Mo3 and Boosie released an album in February.
