Complete Tahajud Prayer Practice With Its Readings And Prayers

JAKARTA - As a Muslim, we must perform the five daily prayers. However, apart from the obligatory prayers, there are still sunnah prayers that we should also practice. One of the sunnah prayers that has great priority is tahajud prayer.

Sholat Tahajud is a sunnah worship that is performed at night, precisely in the last third of the night, between 1 am until dawn. Etymologically the word tahajud comes from the word al-Hujud, which means waking up at night.

There are many virtues from Sholat Tahajud. As Allah SWT says in the letter of Al-Muzzammil verse 6 which reads:

ِنَّ نَاشِئَةَ اللَّيْلِ هِيَ أَشَدُّ وَطْئًا وَأَقْوَمُ قِيلًا

Meaning: "Indeed waking up at night is more appropriate (for khusyu ') and reading at that time is more impressive."

Regarding the priority of Tahajud Prayer, Allah SWT also says in Surat Al-Isra 'Verse 79:

وَمِنَ اللَّيْلِ فَتَهَجَّدْ بِهِ نَافِلَةً لَكَ عَسَىٰ أَنْ يَبْعَثَكَ رَبُّكَ مَقَامًا مَحْمُودًا

Meaning: "And on the night of prayer tahajudlah you as an additional worship for you; may your Lord raise you to a place of praise."

The priority of Tahajud Prayer is also explained by a number of hadiths. For example, As Abu Hurairah explained that the Prophet Muhammad SAW said, "The most important prayer after the obligatory prayer is qiyamul lail (lail prayer)" (HR. Muslim).

Implementation of Tahajud Prayer

The tahajud prayer is performed for 2 rak'ahs with an unlimited number. The habit of tahajud prayer of Rasulullah SAW is to pray 2 rak'ahs 4 times and covered with witr prayer of 3 rak'ahs. Witr prayer is a sunnah prayer that is the closing prayer on that day.

Before performing tahajud prayers, read the following intention of tahajud prayers:

صلى سُنَّةً التَّهَجُّدِ رَكْعَتَيْنِ مُسْتَقْبِلَ الْقِبْلَةِ ِللهِ تَعَالَى

"Ushallii sunnatan tahajjudi rak'ataini mustaqbilal qiblati lillahi ta'alla."

Meaning: "I intend to pray sunna tahajud 2 rak'ahs, facing the Qibla, because of Allah Ta'ala."

After reading the intention of tahajud prayer, perform 2 rak'ahs of prayer with 2 prostrations and 1 salutation. Then do a 2 rak'ah prayer repetition if you want to follow the habits of the Prophet SAW.

After tahajud prayers, then read the prayer. Here is the prayer after the tahajud prayer which is the prayer of the Prophet SAW as narrated by Bukhari and Muslim:

God bless you for the good things you have done, and the good things you have done for me. وَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ اَنْتَ مَلِكُ السَّمَوَاتِ واْلاَرْضِ وَمَنْ فِيْهِنَّ. وَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ اَنْتَ نُوْرُ السَّمَوَاتِ وَاْلاَرْضِ وَمَنْ فِيْهِنَّ. ولك الحمد انت الحق ووعدك الحق ولقاءك حق وقولك حق والجنة حق والنار حق والنبيون حق ومحمد صلى الله عليه وسلم حق والساعة حق. اللهم لك اسلمت وبك امنت وعليك توكلت واليك انبت وبك خاصمت واليك حاكمت فاغفرلي ماقدمت وما اخرت وما اسررت وما اعلنت وما انت اعلم به مني. اننت المقددم وانتممخرر لالاه انات. وَلاَ حَوْلَ وَلاَ قُوَّةَ اِلاَّ بِاللهِ

Latin language:

Allâhumma rabbana lakal hamdu. Anta qayyimus samâwâti wal ardhi wa man fî hinna. Wa lakal hamdu anta malikus samâwâti wal ardhi wa man fî hinna. Wa lakal hamdu anta nûrus samâwâti wal ardhi wa man fî hinna. Wa lakal hamdu antal haq. Wa wa'dukal haq. Wa liqâ'uka haq. Wa qauluka haq. Wal jannatu haq. Wan nâru haq. Wan nabiyyûna haq. Wa Muhammadun shallallâhu alaihi wasallama haq. Was sâ'atu haq. Allâhumma laka aslamtu. Wa bika âmantu. Wa alaika tawakkaltu. Wa ilaika anabtu. Wa bika khâshamtu. Wa ilaika hâkamtu. Fagfirlî mâ qaddamtu, wa mâ akhkhartu, wa mâ asrartu, wa mâ a'lantu, wa mâ anta a'lamu bihi minnî. Antal muqaddimu wa antal mu'akhkhiru. Lâ ilâha illâ anta. Wa lâ haula, wa lâ quwwata illâ billâh.

As for the meaning of the prayer of the Prophet SAW is:

"O Allah, our Lord, all praise be to Thee, Thou art the enforcer of the heavens, the earth, and the creatures therein. Praise be to Thee, Thou art the ruler of the heavens, the earth, and the creatures therein. , the earth, and the creatures therein. Praise be to Thee, Thou art the Truth. Thy promise is true. Thy meeting with Thee is true. Thy word is true. Heaven is real. Hell is the same. The prophets are true. Similarly, the Prophet Muhammad SAW is true. The Day of Judgment is true. O my Lord, only to You do I submit. Only to You do I believe. To You I surrender. Only to You I return. Only on You is the basis of my decision. Therefore forgive me my past and present sins, the sins I have hidden and those I confess, and other sins that You know better than me. You are the First and You are the Last. There is no God but You. There is no power or strength other than God's help. "
