Smells Bad Pig Slaughterhouse In West Jakarta Arrives At DPRD
JAKARTA - A number of factions highlighted the existence of a pig slaughterhouse in Kapuk Village, West Jakarta. This was raised when the general view of the DPRD faction discussed the Draft regional regulation on the 2020 DKI Regional Budget.
Several factions highlighted this RPH because the community was anxious due to waste and air pollution, causing a bad smell around the RPH location which is managed by BUMD owned by the DKI Provincial Government, PD Dharma Jaya. The existence of this slaughterhouse also has an impact on trade and food business activities, which in turn create losses for residents.
Desie Christhyana Sari, a member of the Democrat Faction, asked the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government to immediately close the Pig RPH in Kapuk. He said, its existence was troubling for the people there.
"The Democrat Party faction has requested that the pork slaughterhouse located in the Kapuk area, West Jakarta, be closed immediately due to residents' concerns," Desie said during a meeting on Wednesday, December 4.
Likewise, a member of the Gerindra Purwanto faction, who said that the RPH should be closed because it contradicts the DKI Jakarta Regional Regulation Number 4 of 2007 concerning Poultry Control, Maintenance and Distribution.
"If private business actors have been banned if they contradict the Perda, then why does PT. Darma Jaya as BUMD not comply with these regulations," said Purwanto.
After all, he added, the number of pigs slaughtered every day is only around 200 heads or only to supply 10 to 20 percent of the needs of pigs in DKI Jakarta.
"The area of the slaughterhouse reaches 5 hectares. It will be more beneficial if it is converted to the benefit of the wider community," he said.
Reporting Republika, the pig farm in Kapuk Village was inaugurated by Governor Ali Sadikin in 1962 but only realized it in 1972.
Initially, this pig farm used 125 hectares of land. At least 82 farmers have invested in the form of 40,000 pigs. They manage farms on an area of 1,500 square meters to 2,000 square meters
The farm lots can be selected by the farmer. These pigs are obtained from Central Java, East Java, Bali, Lampung, North Sumatra and Batam.
In 1997, the Mayor of West Jakarta Sutardjianto succeeded in closing the area as a location for a pig farm. However, the abattoir is still operating today.
This RPH has been protested several times by residents. However, the DKI Provincial Government cannot close it.
Launching beritajakarta.id, the urge to close down the farms that joined the RPH also emerged in 2015. However, the Provincial Government (Pemprov) of DKI Jakarta ensures that it will not relocate it.
Head of the DKI Jakarta Department of Marine Agriculture and Food Security (KPKP), Darjamuni, said that this closure was impossible because the existence of the slaughterhouse for pigs was maintained to maintain the need for pork supply in the capital, which has reached 500 heads per day.
However, the DKI Provincial Government provides solutions for dredging waste and treating water channels around the RPH.
"Moving the slaughterhouse for pigs is not easy considering the absence of other representative locations," said Darjamuni, Friday, October 23, 2015.
