Shooting At Wisconsin School Kills Students And Teachers, Suspect Of 15-Year-Old Women's Youth Perpetrator

JAKARTA - The shooting at schools again took place in the United States, killing a student and teacher, with Madison police authorities, Wisconsin announcing the suspected perpetrator was a 15-year-old girl.

Police said the teenager's shot in Wisconsin's school classroom on Monday also injured six others before the suspect committed suicide with a gun.

The shooting took place in a mixed study room just before 11 a.m. local time at the Abundant Life Christian School, which has 420 students from pre-TK to grade 12, quoted from Reuters December 17.

Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes said authorities identified Natalie Rupnow (15) who used Samantha's name as a suspect in the shooting, quoted by CNN.

Barnes said a second-grade student called 911 to report the shooting at the school.

Officials said the suspect arrived at the school on time and took out a gun about three hours after school day.

As soon as the shooting started, the students were locked up in their classrooms and "behaved very well," said Barbara Wiers, director of primary school and school relations in Abundant Life.

Students train what to do in the event of a shooting, and are usually told, "this is just a drill," Wiers told a news conference.

"They were obviously scared when they heard of the 'lockdown, lockdown' and nothing else, they knew it was real," said Wiers.

The students were then taken off campus to a location where all the victims were reunited with their parents, officials said.

Evidence shows the suspect died from his own gunshot wound, Barnes said at a press conference Monday night, adding the suspect was pronounced dead on his way to the hospital.

Two people who were shot dead were a teenage student and a teacher, Barnes said without identifying the victim.

Two injured students were in critical condition with life-threatening injuries, while one teacher and three other students were injured and expected to survive.

It is known that shootings at schools are known to often occur in Uncle Sam's country. This year, there were 322 shooting incidents according to the K-12 School Shooting Database website, the second highest since 1966.

There is no known motive for the violence. Meanwhile, the parents were invited to cooperate in the investigation, Barnes said without elaborating.

When asked how the girl got the gun, Barnes said, "Good question. How can a 15-year-old get a gun?"

Separately, Madison Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway said his party should work better to prevent armed violence.

"We need to do better in our country and our community to prevent gun violence," he said.

It is known that school arms and safety control has become a major political and social issue in the US, where the number of school shootings has soared in recent years.

President Joe Biden called on Congress to enact a gun control law to prevent further massacres.

"It is unacceptable that we cannot protect our children from the specter of this gun violence. We cannot continue to accept it as normal," President Biden said in a statement.

In 2022, President Biden signed the first major federal arms reform law in three decades, about a month after an 18-year-old man opened fire at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, which killed 19 students and two teachers.
