Heavy Rain Inundates South Sulawesi Governor's Office House, Acting Governor Immediately Reviews And Coordinates Handling

MAKASSAR Heavy rains that hit Makassar City, South Sulawesi, caused flooding in a number of areas, including in the official residence area of the Governor of South Sulawesi. Acting (Pj) Governor of South Sulawesi, Zudan Arif Fakrulloh, immediately reviewed the condition of his official house which was affected by flooding through amateur videos which later circulated on social media.

In the video, Zudan appears to be wearing an umbrella and rolling his pants while walking in the yard of the office which is flooded. He noticed the water level inundating the futsal field and the surrounding area, then summoned the Head of the South Sulawesi Public Works and Spatial Planning (PUTR) Office, Astina Abbas, and the Head of the Water Resources, Cipta Karya, and Spatial Planning Office, Andi Darmawan Bintang, to immediately deal with the situation.

According to Zudan, the puddles came from the overflow of drainage around Jalan Sungai Tangka and Jalan Sungai Saddang, which is behind the governor's official residence.

"This house of office has the lowest yard compared to the road in front and behind, so water enters the yard," said Zudan, Sunday, December 15.

Although the water inundated the yard, Zudan ensured that the flood did not enter the living room of the official house. "Alhamdulillah, at night the water has receded," he added.

On this occasion, Zudan also reminded the importance of preparedness of all regional heads in South Sulawesi to deal with potential disasters due to extreme weather, such as floods and landslides.

"I have issued a circular to anticipate disasters due to high rainfall. Please pay attention, starting from floods, landslides, to other disasters," he said.

Heavy rains that flushed Makassar City from morning to evening caused flooding on a number of roads and residential areas with varying water levels. A number of inundation points were caused by overflowing water from drainage and canals that were unable to accommodate the discharge of rainwater.

In addition to the governor's official residence, several other areas in Makassar City were also reported to be affected. The water that overflowed from canals and drainage inundated the roads into residential areas.

This situation highlights the need for better handling drainage infrastructure to mitigate flooding in the future, especially in areas that are centers of government and densely populated settlements.
