Supporting Acceleration Of Decarbonization, Wartsila Develops Power Plants From Hydrogen

JAKARTA - Finnish technology company in the field of energy and central marine, Wartsila is developing technology to accelerate decarbonization towards Net Zero Emission in 2060.

President Wartsila Energy Anders Lindberg said his party had made many breakthroughs to reduce world carbon emissions, one of which was conversion to sustainable fuels such as hydrogen and ammonia.

Meanwhile, Wartsila is currently developing a 20 percent hydrogen-fueled power plant for the commercial stage and is being developed at its plant in Bali.

"This step takes time and in time when hydrogen is available, it will be used by the strel and power gemeration industry," said Anders on the sidelines of the 78th Asian Enlit Day Exhibition, Wednesday, November 15.

Citing Anders' explanation, he said that there are 5 steps that can be taken by Indonesia towards the NZE target in 2060, including increasing more new and renewable energy, balancing energy, gradually reducing the use of fossil energy, conversion to sustainable fuels such as hydrogen and aminia and leaving fossil fuels.

To run this program, said Anders, his party also needs support from stakeholders such as the government, in this case the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources.

"When hydrogen is affordable and the government can support it by supporting hydrogen project pilots so that industry can know that the industry can also use hydrogen," added Anders.

Moreover, he said, Wartsila is a technology company that is ready to use hydrogen at power plants in Indonesia.

"And in our lab we have headed there and commercially there has been a blending of up to 25 percent at our generators in Bali. When hydrogen is reached, Wartsila is ready with the technology," concluded Anders.
