North Maluku Gosowong Gold Mine Wins GMP Awards 2023
The Directorate General of Mineral and Coal of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) has held the Good Mining Practice (GMP) Award as an appreciation to the mineral and coal Mining Business Entities that implemented good mining techniques.
This award is an indicator of the performance of government guidance and supervision.
Award recipients include Work Contract holders (KK), PKP2B, IUP, IUPK, and IUJP.
The purpose of this award is to encourage responsible, efficient, environmentally friendly mining practices, and prioritize safety for the prosperity of the community.
For the 2023 Good Mining Practice Award which assesses performance in 2022, it was attended by various Mining Business Entities with details: 13 KK holders, 33 PKP2B, 30 PMA IUPs, 224 PMDN IUPs, 20 BUMN IUPs, 9 IUPKs, and 65 IUJPs.
The Gosowong Gold Mine in North Maluku Province, which is managed by one of the leading mining industry players in Indonesia, PT Nusa Halmahera Minerals (NHM), has again proven its commitment to sustainable mining practices by winning awards at the 2023 Good Mining Practice Awards.
This prestigious award is given as an appreciation for NHM's dedication in implementing aspects of sustainable mineral conservation and environmental management.
The assessment for mineral conservation aspects in the 2023 GMP award involves a comprehensive set of criteria, including: Conservation Administration, Mining Recovery, Recovery Processing, as well as Environmental Monitoring, Innovation in the Environmental Sector, and Waste Management.
With this achievement, NHM not only affirms its position as one of the leadings in the mining industry in the country, but also as a company able to provide tangible evidence of the commitment to implementing responsible and innovative mining practices.
According to company management, the implementation of GMP principles in its company is in line with the goals of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) launched by the United Nations (UN), where awards in terms of mineral conservation and environmental management that have been obtained by NHM are in line with a number of global goals, including SDG 9-Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure, SDG 12-Production and Responsible Consumption, SDG 13-Action Climate.
Deputy President Director of NHM Amiruddin Hasyim said the implementation of GMP principles in his company was in line with the goals of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) which had been proclaimed by the United Nations.
In the mineral conservation aspect and environmental management carried out by NHM, it is in line with a number of these global goals.
"We are proud of this achievement, but this is not the end of our journey. This is proof of NHM management's commitment to sustainable mining practices, environmental management, environmentally friendly operations, and resources stewardship. We are dedicated to continuing to innovate and implement the best practices in every aspect of our operations," he said.
He admitted that NHM routinely holds events to commemorate Environment Day by inviting employees as well as local stakeholders to build concern for the environment from all parties.
"Of course, we will continue to uphold the principles of GMP, both in our operations as well as in NHM interactions with stakeholders. One example was on Environment Day yesterday with the Regional Government and the community through Mangrove planting," explained Amiruddin.

Amiruddin said GMP implementation would continue to be strengthened, especially recently that NHM succeeded in exploration, which increased the number of gold reserves to reach 1.4 million Oz with the total gold resources reaching 2.3 million Oz.
"We will make sure that through the overall implementation of GMP, these new reserves and resources can provide new energy for our companies and employees, as well as positive benefits that are sustainable for the surrounding community and all stakeholders," he concluded.
