Use of Biodiesel Successfully Reduced Emissions by up to 27.8 Million Throughout 2022
JAKARTA - The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) continues to strive to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through various programs, one of which is biomass.
Director General of New, Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation (EBTKE) Yudo Dwinanda Priaadi explained that biomass as an energy source based on new and renewable energy plays an important role in the decarbonization program towards net zero emissions.
Yudo said, one of the biomass products is biodiesel, which is used as a mixture of diesel fuel for vehicles.
"Biodiesel offers a cleaner and more environmentally friendly fuel mixture than conventional fossil fuels, thereby leading to a significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution," said Yudo, quoted Thursday, October 12.
The implementation of bodysel in Indonesia, explained Yudo, has been running for more than 17 years and has made Indonesia a pioneer in the use of biodiesel, which in February 2023, the mandatory program for mixing Biodiesel with fossil fuels has been implemented nationally, with the percentage reaching 35 percent. or B35 and will continue to be increased until it reaches B100.
Furthermore, Yudo explained that throughout 2022, the mandatory B30 biodiesel program succeeded in reducing greenhouse gas emissions by up to 27.8 million CO2e with a biodiesel quota allocation of 11 million Kiloliters (KL), with an economic value of more than 10 billion US dollars.
"Meanwhile, in 2023, the biodiesel quota is set at 13.15 million kL and it is hoped that the benefit value from this program can reach more than 11.2 billion US dollars," concluded Yudo.
