Honorary Of The Riau Islands Provincial Government For The Killer Of A Singaporean Citizen Arrested, Annoyed Perpetrators Don't Become Loaned Money

The Barelang Police (Batam, Rempang, Galang) said the suspect in the case of premeditated murder and violent theft against Singaporean citizens was an honorary employee of the Riau Islands Provincial Government.

"The suspect with the initials MRS works as an honorary officer at the Riau Islands Provincial Government," said Barelang Police Chief Kombes Nugroho Tri Nuryanto, followed by ANTARA, Monday, October 2.

He explained that the murder case began when the suspect, who is also a mosque administrator in Tanjungpinang, was annoyed that he failed to be given a loan by the victim, initially the victim was willing to give a loan, but was not given by the victim.

The money was planned to be used to replace the money for the purchase of sacrificial animals which he had previously used to trade (activities carried out in the financial market) and suffered defeat with a large amount of money.

"This suspect is friends with the victim. He knows this victim has money. So the suspect borrowed Rp20 million from the victim. Initially he wanted to give it to the victim, but on the promised day, the victim did not want to give it," he explained.

Annoyed, the suspect then planned to kill the victim by pretending to invite the victim to leave in a rented car and had prepared a rope to kill the victim.

When he arrived at a quiet place, the suspect then hit the victim's head and tied his neck with a rope in the car. After being believed to be a lifeless victim, the suspect dumped the victim in the Rempang area on September 19, 2023.

"After killing, the suspect then took the victim's property. The suspect's actions were known when he used the victim's ATM to withdraw money. So the police looked for the perpetrator, and were arrested on Friday (29/9)," he said.

For the murder committed by the suspect, he was charged with premeditated murder and theft with a maximum sentence of life imprisonment or the death penalty.
