Transportation Agency: WFH for Civil Apparatus During the ASEAN Summit Only Reduced Congestion in Jakarta by 1.69 Percent

JAKARTA - Head of the DKI Jakarta Transportation Service, Syafrin Liputo, admitted that the policy of working from home for DKI Jakarta Civil Apparatus (ASN) during the ASEAN Summit series of events did not reduce the volume of traffic jams in the capital city much.

Based on records, traffic performance volume from 4 to 8 September 2023 only fell 1.69 percent compared to the same period the previous month.

"So last week, traffic volume from 4-8 September compared to 7-11 August for the same time period in the previous month fell by 1.69 percent," said Syafrin to journalists, Tuesday, September 12.

Syafrin then explained the cause. He admitted that the WFH contribution of ASNs did not play a significant role in reducing congestion.

Remember, the number of ASN who work in Jakarta is only 5 percent of the entire community who carry out activities in the capital city every day.

Meanwhile, WFH is applied at 50 percent of the number of ASN in Jakarta. Thus, the reduction in the proportion of activities that require mobility is only around 2 percent.

This is also the basis for the DKI Provincial Government previously asking private companies to follow this policy.

"Therefore, from the average last week during the implementation of WFH, compared to August 7-11, the decrease (congestion) was only 1.69 percent in the city," explained Syafrin.

Furthermore, Syafrin admitted that the traffic volume of vehicles entering Jakarta from Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi actually increased by 1.57 percent in the period September 4 to 8.

"So, yesterday the average vehicle was 2,626 vehicles per day (from Bodetabek to Jakarta), where the proportion was around 77 percent two-wheeled," he added.
