2 Times Hot Clouds Fall Mount Karangetang, North Sulawesi
MANADO - Head of the Karangetang Volcano Observation Post, in Sitaro Islands Regency, North Sulawesi, Yudia P Tatipang, said that there were two hot clouds falling towards Kali Kahetang.
"The glide distance of the hot cloud avalanches is about two kilometers," said Yudia in Manado as reported by ANTARA, Monday, July 10.
During the observation period at 06.00 - 12.00 WITA, he said, after 07.58 WITA, hot clouds of avalanches also occurred at 08.50 WITA or almost an hour later.
"We hope that residents are aware of the threat of hot clouds falling due to piles of volcanic material," he said.
He added that during that period, two avalanche hot cloud earthquakes were recorded with an amplitude of between 20-30 millimeters with a duration of 205-220 seconds.

55 avalanche earthquakes with an amplitude of between three and 25 millimeters for 29-270 seconds were recorded with an amplitude of between 0.5 and five millimeters, dominant of two millimeters.
"Until now, the status of Mount Karangetang is still level III on standby," he said.
A total of 17 residents or nine families (KK) of Bolo Hamlet, Taroane Village, East Siau District, Sitaro Islands Regency, North Sulawesi, were evacuated due to hot clouds from Mount Karangetang which occurred at 07.58 WITA.
Nine heads of families are currently being evacuated temporarily at the Bukit Zaitun Tampuna Church in Taroane Village.
