Wearing Port Porter Uniforms, A Pair Of Lovers Carrying 1.2 Kg Marijuana Arrested In Biak Papua

PAPUA - Biak Numfor Resort Police arrested lovers YYW (35) and SHR (23) as suspects carrying 1267.8 grams of dried marijuana, or about 1.2 kg.

"The arrest of a marijuana drug case was carried out by the Biak Police Narcotics Unit with evidence of more than one kilogram," said Head of the Biak Police AKBP Damianus Dedy Susanto in his statement, June 26, confiscated by Antara.

Damianus explained that both of them were arrested on June 24, 2023 in the Biak Port area, Papua. The modus operandi of these suspects is to pretend to wear the uniform of loading and unloading workers (TKBM) or port porters to trick the authorities.

According to the Police Chief, based on the search when the suspect YYW was arrested, he was carrying marijuana in a cardboard covered in plastic.

"One kilogram more marijuana belonging to suspects YYW and SHR has been secured as evidence for trial," Damianus said.

Damianus said the two suspects were a syndicate of the Jayapura-Manokwari drug trafficking network, West Papua.

The evidence of marijuana that was secured is about 1.2 kg, which is planned to be sent by the suspect to a person with the initials J in Manokwari.

"Everyone who without rights or against the law offers to sell, sell, buy, accept, become an intermediary in buying and selling, exchanging, or delivering narcotics class I, shall be sentenced to life imprisonment or a minimum of six years in prison," he said.

In addition to securing marijuana with a net weight of 1164.64 grams packaged in 54 clear sachets, the Biak Police also confiscated a unit of metic motorbike to be used as evidence at trial.

For their actions, the two suspects were charged with Article 111 paragraph 2 and Article 114 paragraph (2) of Law No. 39 of 2009 concerning Psychotropics.
