The Minister Of Transportation Wants Mass Transportation Services In Regions To Continue To Be Improved
Minister of Transportation (Menhub) Budi Karya Sumadi wants mass transportation services in the regions to continue to be improved with good safety and security standards.
The Minister of Transportation conveyed this when checking mass transportation services at the Bandar Raya Payung Sekaki Type A Terminal, Pekanbaru City, Riau, Sunday (11/6).
"I came here to convey the President's mandate. The message is to seek mass transportation so that it becomes the community's main choice. Therefore, we must plan, budget, execute, and oversee the transportation of this mass transportation," said the Minister of Transportation, quoted by ANTARA from a written statement, Monday, June 12.
The Minister of Transportation emphasized that Indonesia is one of the countries with the highest population growth. According to him, in big cities with large populations, the massive use of private vehicles will actually cause traffic jams and pollution.
Therefore, he said, it is important for all elements to campaign for the use of mass transportation.
The Ministry of Transportation noted that Bandar Raya Payung Sekaki Terminal serves bus routes to 48 cities/districts between cities between provinces (AKAP) spread across Sumatra and Java as well as to 24 cities/districts between cities in the Riau province (AKDP).
Bandar Raya Payung Sekaki Terminal serves a total of 1,354,917 passengers departing and arriving during 2022. This number increased by 26.2 percent from 1,073,480 passengers in 2021.
Meanwhile, to maintain the safety aspect of travel, Payung Sekaki Airport Terminal also regularly conducts ramp checks on all vehicles. From January to May 2023, the terminal has ramp checks on 3,435 buses.
After visiting the Payung Sekaki Bandar Raya Terminal, the Minister of Transportation also visited Sultan Syarif Kasim II Airport, Pekanbaru City. The Minister of Transportation checked aspects of airport safety, including participating in routine checks of fire engines and other supporting vehicles.
