Meeting The Chairman Of PBNU, Mahfud MD Talks About Inspirational Politics For The 2024 General Election
Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) Mahfud MD encourages inspiring politics, namely politics that builds justice, law enforcement, and chooses honest and fair leaders, for the 2024 General Election (Pemilu).
"How to build justice, enforce law, choose an honest fair leader. That's called inspiring politics," Mahfud MD said as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, May 26.
He made this statement after meeting with the General Chairperson of the Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) Executive Board, Yahya Cholil Staquf.
Mahfud MD also said that his meeting with the Chairman of PBNU also discussed Islamic issues in the framework of nationalism, Indonesianism and building a more advanced nation.
The former Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court assessed that his meeting as a government representative with the General Chair of PBNU was very important to equalize the vision.
NU, he said, has the authority to provide views on education, advice, and public order appeals.
Meanwhile, the government is the party implementing policies based on input from the public, especially from PBNU.
"The law and authority that I have, I do in the field," he said.
Regarding efforts to build an advanced nation, continued Mahfud, he and the General Chair of PBNU have the same ideas that have often been discussed together at certain moments.
"So he is moving in the community, I am moving in the government for our Indonesia," he said.

Meanwhile, Chairman of PBNU KH Yanya Cholil Staquf said that the presence of Mahfud MD as Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia further emphasized the synergy between PBNU and the government in its efforts to build a better Indonesia.
In addition, his meeting with Mahfud MD also eroded public doubts regarding the status of Mahfud MD cadres in Nahdlatul Ulama.
"This meeting was to confirm that even though Mr. Mahfud (it was) MD, he was NU," joked Gus Yahya.
