The Minister Of Transportation Asks For The Operation Of The Kualanamu Airport Train To Be Extended To Binjai
JAKARTA - Minister of Transportation (Menhub) Budi Karya Sumadi continues to encourage the development of urban mass transportation in Medan. Along with this effort, he asked for the operation of the train from Kualanamu International Airport which was extended to Binjai Station.
Currently, said Budi, the airport train from Kualanamu International Airport has been operating up to Medan Station. With the extension to Binjai Station, there will be an additional 23 km of travel.
Furthermore, Budi said, he would continue to increase the headway or the waiting time between airport trains every 15 minutes.
"We want to give the opportunity for our brothers and sisters in Binjai to go directly to the airport by train. God willing, we can carry it out this December," he said, quoted Wednesday, May 17.
Budi admitted that he wanted to ensure that the commuter mass transportation facilities in the city of Medan and its surroundings had increased so that users would also increase.
"And provide convenience in community mobility in Medan and its surroundings," he said.
In addition to airport trains, said Budi, to encourage urban mass transportation, in the future, trains from Binjai Station will also be operated from the Besitang Station to Sei Sirah Station along 88.55 km.
The train will pass nine stations including Binjai Station, Kuala Bingai, Stabat, Tanjung Selamat, Tanjung Pura, Gebat, Pangkalan Brandan, Besitang, as well as Sei Sirah, with a total travel time of approximately 2 hours 38 minutes and a track capacity of 65 trains and 530 people per day.
