KPK: Corruptor Prisoners Should Be Sent To Nusakambangan To Be Deterrent

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) assesses that convicts of corruption cases should be placed in the Nusakambangan Penitentiary (Lapas). It is believed that this method can provide a deterrent effect so that the eradication of corruption can be maximized.

"The hope is that if the prison is for corruptors in Nusakambangan, it will be more frightening and will have a deterrent effect," said KPK Deputy Chair Nurul Ghufron to reporters, Tuesday, May 9.

Even so, Ghufron did not want to talk much about the discourse. Moreover, the anti-corruption commission is still conducting studies.

However, he believes that corruptors are now not afraid if they are only detained in ordinary prisons. Therefore, the Nusakambangan Prison is considered a scourge for them.

"Of course it is a study if he is only sentenced to imprisonment in other places, he may consider it normal, so it needs to be strengthened to be more frightening and have a deterrent effect," said Ghufron.

Meanwhile, the Head of the KPK News Section Ali Fikri's sentence for corrupt convicts must be strengthened. Based on the institution's study, there are at least some problems faced by prisons such as state losses due to overstays or overstays until the privilege of certain inmates paying.

According to him, improvements need to be made, such as moving corrupt convicts to Nusakambangan Prison as a long-term recommendation to improve the system and supervision.

"The management of prisons is an urgency that must be immediately corrected in order to mitigate the risk of corruption," Ali said in a written statement.
