Chronology Of Indonesian Citizens Arrested In Myanmar: Guarded By Armed People
YOGYAKARTA - Rosa tells the chronology of her sister, an Indonesian citizen (WNI) who is predicted to be a victim of human trafficking, was smuggled into Myanmar. So, what is the chronology of Indonesian citizens being held in Myanmar?
Sebelumnya pernah viral akun Instagram@bebaskankan kami mengunggah beberapa orang yang diprediksi WNI meminta bantuan dibebaskan dari sekapit di Myawaddy Myanmar.
The account states that the Indonesian citizen may be sold to China and other industries in Southeast Asia.
Rosa, who refused to give her full name to reporters, her sister, Novi, was also a victim of trafficking in persons in Myanmar with other Indonesian citizens.
He said his brother honestly got job vacancies outside the country from people he knew. However, Rosa said that until now she did not recognize the person's identity.
"He informed that there are job vacancies in Thailand, with a salary of US$800 to US$1,500. Working hours are 12 hours from 20.00 to 15.00. The facilities obtained are a place to live, eat, plane tickets, work visas, basically only work visas need to be prepared," said Rosa.
"From there, the recommendation from that person was given the agent's number. It was submitted to his agent in Indonesia. Novi together with a friend whose name is Mayang, both of them contacted this agent to apply in this locker. This agent did the interview," he said again.
After that, Rosa told that Novi and her friend had held a job interview including several tests.
"English tests. The distance from them received until departure was only three days. So after the interview, oh yes, it was accepted, this was bought, tickets, three days later it immediately left," Rosa.
Rosa continued the chronology, Novi and Mayang left Bandung on October 23, 2022.
"Arriving in Bekasi, I stayed at this agent's house for one night. That's where I was given a SPK letter, a kind of work introduction letter, there was a CV name. I forgot what CV was. It was also said that the visa used Visa on Arrival. For tourist visits, it's visa-free, Thailand. So it's said that there is no work visa. Later, when it comes there, the work visa will be taken care of because it says that the departure is easier and cheaper, according to the agent," said Rosa.
He thought his brother really believed the promises that the agency said.
"Then on October 24, 2022 they departed from Soekarno-Hatta Airport to Bangkok. Until Bangkok they were picked up by people from the company. From there, there were actually suspicious things, but they didn't have any assumptions yet. So they picked them up by van, the glass is dark, the atmosphere is different," said Rosa.
On that date Rosa said Novi could still contact her from Bangkok. Novi also had time to send a video of her journey by van to Mae Sot city, near Myanmar's border.
"At Mae Sot they stayed one night and the next morning they were taken by canoe to cross the river. Here it is very, very suspicious because yes even though they did not know at that time that the river had actually become a border between Thailand and Myanmar," Rosa explained.
"So they were brought across the border in a way like being smuggled. Crossing it has been guarded by armed civilians."
The identities of many people, whether from Thailand or Myanmar, are difficult to identify because they wear plain clothes, not army uniforms.
"But it is possible that from Myanmar their area is an area controlled by the Karen ethnic group who is currently a rebel for the Myanmar authorities. But we cannot confirm whether Thai or Myanmar people are not wearing uniforms, they don't wear anything. Just like local people," he said again.
Arriving in Myanmar via the river, Rosa revealed that the other Indonesian brothers and citizens were forced to sign a contract that reads Mandarin.
If deny it, Rosa said the Indonesian citizens are obliged to pay off compensation in the amount that makes no sense for her, namely US$20,000.
In fact, Novi was actually hired to commit fraud by online or online scamming targeting the people of the United States and Europe. They are often tortured if they cannot achieve the target of fraud.
Because he did not want to mess around and did not make money for the company, Novi was also the target of persecution. Gradually, even though he did not get income. The impact continued to be disobedient, Novi was threatened with being sold to other industries.
"So Novi and his friends fought back by going on strike. Start the confinement since they broke down," he said.
