Report Says Sega Will Acquire Rovio, Studio Pembangunan Gim Angry Bird
JAKARTA - Premium console game developers and publishers have seen huge potential gains in the mobile games room, and more and more of them enter the market, which often comes in the form of acquisitions, just like Sega.
A report claims that Sega will soon acquire Rovio, the video game development studio behind the very famous mobile game franchise Angry Bird.
First reported by The Wall Street Journal, the deal is said to be worth up to 1 billion US dollars. And if things go according to plan, the deal is likely to be finalized in the coming days.
This fact was also later confirmed by Rovio's studio confirming to Reuters that they are currently in talks with Sega regarding the deal.
"As part of its strategic review, Rovio Entertainment Corporation confirmed that they were in discussions with Sega Sammy Holdings Inc. Rovio and Sega will release further information at the right time," the company said.
The acquisition of a number of console game companies against mobile game developers has been widely carried out in recent years.
One of them is Electronic Arts (EA) which acquired Playdemic with a deal worth US$1.4 billion in 2021. Then there is the Take-Two Interactive country which completed its acquisition of Zynga worth 12.7 billion last year.
Meanwhile, tech giant Microsoft also said that the mobile market is a major factor in Activision Blizzard's upcoming factor.
