Batik Air's Explanation Of Air Conditioning Airplane Passengers Complained About The Kuala Lumpur-Soekarno Hatta Route

Batik Air apologized for the inconvenience that occurred to guests (as passengers) on flight number ID-7283 on the Kuala Lumpur International Airport route, Malaysia (KUL) to Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang (CGK) on Monday (10/4).

Corporate Communications Strategic of Lion Air, Danang Mandala Prihantoro explained, Batik Air provides an explanation to passengers by clearly and transparently informing them of the situation, as well as providing appropriate alternative solutions.

The discomfort (the plane was not feeling cold enough and the lights went out instantly) which occurred in the situation in question was caused by the Ground Power Unit (GPU) which did not work optimally (Ground power issue).

Ground power issue is the disruption that occurs in the supply of electric power supplied to aircraft through the GPU while the plane is parked on land. Obstacles can be in the form of the GPU's inability to provide sufficient electricity supply to the aircraft, or there are indications of failure in the electrical system which causes the electricity supply to be disrupted.

The Ground Power Unit (GPU) is provided by a third party or partnerground handling in collaboration with Batik Air in Kuala Lumpur.

Ground Power Unit (GPU) is a separate device from the aircraft and functions as an out-of-plane electricity supplier. GPU is usually located in the plane's parking area and connected to the plane using an electric cable installed in the connector on the plane.

By using GPU, aircraft get the power supply needed to turn on electric systems in the aircraft, such as lighting systems, air conditioning, avionic systems and so on.

In its operation, the GPU is controlled by the ground handling operator and not by the flight crew. Operatorground handling is responsible for ensuring that the GPU functions properly and the electricity supply provided according to aircraft needs.

Therefore, there is good communication between ground handling operators and flight crews to ensure that the electricity supply provided by the GPU meets the safety and security standards needed to operate aircraft safely and efficiently.

Batik Air emphasized that the Boeing 737-800NG aircraft registered for PK-LBS is in prime condition, worthy and safe to operate. Obstacles that occur in the non-maximization of GPU performance have been addressed immediately and do not affect flight safety.

Batik Air and partnerground handling ensure that the condition of the Ground Power Unit (GPU) supply electricity works well in ensuring the reliability of the aircraft's electricity supply when parking on land, steps taken

Accelerating the handling process. Batik Air and ground handling partners immediately pay attention and a quick response in dealing with problems that occur in the GPU so that the aircraft can operate normally.

The engineering team checks and evaluates the problem with the GPU and repairs or replaces damaged or problematic equipment, thus ensuring the aircraft can operate optimally according to standard operating procedures (SOP) when at the airport.

The plane took off at 18:32 local time (Malayia time zone, GMT+08) and landed at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport at 19:19 WIB (GMT+07).
