DGIP Regarding Ahmad Dhani And Once Mekel's Conflict: Anyone Can Prohibit Their Work From Being Used By Others
JAKARTA – There is still a conflict between Ahmad Dhani and Once Mekel. The Dewa 19 keyboardist uploaded a video recording via Instagram, which contains the opinion of Freddy Harris as the Director General of Intellectual Property Rights regarding the issue of royalties for Dewa 19 songs.
Freddy Harris said that anyone may prohibit the use of other people's creations.
"Anyone may prohibit the use of other people's creations without permission and without paying royalties," said Freddy Harris.
"That's the concept. The basic philosophy of copyright is right there," he continued.
As is known, Ahmad Dhani sued Once Mekel with nine statements regarding the economic rights of his creations.
Dhani filed a lawsuit because Once Mekel, and Panji Prasetyo as his attorney, also did the same thing to the singer of Selir Hati.
“Then, the question is whether a creator can prohibit singers from using the creator's creation commercially? The answer is no," explained Panji Prasetyo in a press conference at Kios Ojo Keos, Jakarta, last Friday.
"Thus, it is clear that a creator cannot arbitrarily specifically prohibit someone from using his creation commercially," concluded Panji.
Wow, that's getting longer.
