Work Accidents Rise, SKK Migas Reminds Drilling To Keep Safety Prioritized
JAKARTA - The Special Task Force for Upstream Oil and Gas Business Activities (SKK Migas) announced 2023 as the year the national oil and gas production enters the online phase.
This determination was supported by massive investments reaching US$15.5 billion and aggressive programs, one of which was drilling the 2023 development well which was targeted at 991 wells or 30.4 percent higher than last year's realization of well drilling.
Deputy for SKK Migas Exploitation Wahju Wibowo said, as an industry with high risk, health safety & environment (HSE) is a priority in the upstream oil and gas industry, so SKK Migas always pays attention and supervision that is inherent in the implementation of HSE in the national oil and gas industry.
The upstream oil and gas investment will be absorbed in drilling activities with the largest portion. Therefore, SKK Migas pays special attention and carries out strict supervision in the implementation of drilling activities. We emphasize that everyone must have high self awareness of safety and make safety not only a priority but as a value," said Wajhu in a discussion with the media, Wednesday, April 5.
Wahyu emphasized that work safety or safety for workers in the upstream oil and gas industry has a very high value because according to him safety and health are closely related to productivity and efficiency that supports each other's performance.
The implementation of HSE upstream oil and gas is actually much better than the average global upstream oil and gas industry. This can be seen from the performance of the HSE of the national oil and gas industry in 2022 with 341 million working hours, an incident rate (IR) calculation of 0.23 which is better than the average IR Global which in 2021 reached 0.77," said Wahju.
He further explained that the achievement of IR as of March 2023 had indeed increased slightly to 0.31.
"However, along with the efforts made by SKK Migas, we are optimistic that by the end of 2023 the implementation of HSE will improve so that IR is expected to be like the achievement of 2022," concluded Wahju.
