Kick Off Java Region Inflation Control Movement Officially Launches From Purwakarta

JAKARTA Bank Indonesia (BI) has officially launched the 2023 National Food Inflation Control Movement (GNPIP) for the Java region through a ceremony held in Purwakarta, West Java.

BI Governor Perry Wajiyo said this effort was a form of commitment to strengthening food inflation control, including ensuring controlled inflation ahead of Eid al-Fitr.

According to him, Bank Indonesia together with the Central and Regional Inflation Control Team (TPIP and TPID) throughout Java launched two flagship programs to support national food security. The two programs are the upstream digitization of the food sector and quick wins controlling short-term food inflation.

"Through this program, it is hoped that it will strengthen and expand the application of end-to-end digitalization of food production to encourage productivity to support national price stability and food security so that it can realize Java as a food barn," he said on Wednesday, March 5.

Perry explained that his party initiated the digitization of upstream downstream production side, post-harvest, warehousing, processing, marketing to financing in the food sector through optimizing the role of MSMEs, including pesantren.

Then, there is also product marketing digitization with agricultural startups, to market digitization including QRIS facilitation for traders.

"We also encourage the expansion of cooperation between regions (KAD), distribution efficiency through the provision of affordable logistics and storage services to optimizing the development and assistance of organic fertilizers," he said.

Perry added, strengthening the synergy between TPIP/TPID and GNPIP will also accelerate the decline in food inflation in 2022 and it is hoped that in 2023 it can become a joint concrete instrument to control the pressure of national food inflation.

He said that in the short term it is necessary to ensure that inflation is controlled ahead of the National Religious Holiday period (HBKN) and anticipate weather changes.

"Bank Indonesia is committed to continuing to provide support in maintaining the control of volatile food (VF) inflation and inflation expectations through strengthening support for cheap market facilitation, coordination of strengthening and expanding inter-regional cooperation (KAD), as well as strengthening coordination and communication of inflation control policies," he explained.

Meanwhile, the Kick Off of the National Food Inflation Control Movement (GNPIP) 2023 nationally had already been launched in Makassar, South Sulawesi in early March.
