Tama Electric: Nissan Electric Car From War
JAKARTA - Nissan is one of the famous Japanese car manufacturers that has been around for almost 90 years. During its history, Nissan has produced various innovative types of cars and won many awards.
Well, maybe not many know that Nissan also has an early history in developing electric cars. Tama Electric is the electric car that Nissan first developed in 1947.
Tama Electric itself is the result of the development of a previous electric car called Tachikawa. Tachikawa was developed by the Royal Air Force of the Empire of Japan during World War II.
You could say the birth of this car was forced by circumstances. After losing World War II, Japan suffered from a shortage of oil, goods, and a shortage of acute foodstuffs. On the other hand, the electricity supply experienced a surplus because there were almost no large amounts of household equipment or electricity use.
This electric energy surplus eventually triggered automotive engineers and technicians to take advantage of the situation and be creative to create the first electric vehicle from Nissan.
Tama Electric uses a rechargeable battery, with a distance of about 65 km and a maximum speed of 35 km/hour.
Although the four-passenger's car may look ancient and slow when compared to modern electric cars, Tama Electric has been the beginning of the electric car revolution in Japan.
