The Christmas House, The First Gay Themed Film To Be Released At Hallmark
JAKARTA - The director of the gay Christmas film The Christmas House revealed that the audience would be a little surprised when they saw the same-sex kiss scene in the film.
The film, starring Jonathan Bennett (Mean Girls) as a gay man, premiered on the Hallmark Channel on Sunday 22 November.
Hallmark is known for producing a large number of favorite festival films each year - but before that, they had always considered very carefully when it came to showing films that represented queer couples.
But this year, they finally changed their policy through The Christmas House.
And director Michael Grossman knows that some viewers holding anti-LGBT + views will have a hard time watching the scene where Bennett's character Brandon Mitchell kisses her husband Jake, played by Brad Harder.
"Look, I know the reputation of the Hallmark Channel, and what people are expecting across the country," Grossman said as quoted by the Los Angeles Times, Wednesday, November 25.
“I hope that a few percent of these people maybe can squint a little and learn something about people being human, and people who love each other. And that's not all the things they imagined. "
Grossman continued: “I understand that, for some viewers, the kiss has definitely pushed them to their potential limits. But, you know, boundaries sometimes need to be pushed. "
