Once Banned, Pakistan Finally Unblocks TikTok
JAKARTA - Pakistan has finally lifted the ban on the popular social media app TikTok in its country. Where TikTok promises to filter all accounts that display content with "obscene and immoral" content.
The move comes about 10 days after Pakistan blocked TikTok. Because they failed to block "immoral and indecent" content.
"TikTok has agreed to moderate accounts according to local laws," said a spokesman for the Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA), as quoted by The Verge, Tuesday, October 20.
At least the short video application already has 20 million monthly active users in the country. TikTok is the third most downloaded app in Pakistan over the past 12 months, after WhatsApp and Facebook.
TikTok is often criticized for the content on its platform. Companies are also given response time in order to comply with existing instructions and guidelines in the country.
In June, TikTok was also blocked in India - TikTok's biggest user market - citing national security concerns amid border tensions with China.
