OnePlus Co-Founder, Carl Pei Resigns
JAKARTA - One of the founders of OnePlus, Carl Pei, is reported to have left the company. Pei is known to produce a lot of work that makes OnePlus a smartphone that can compete with each other.
Pei has been with OnePlus for 20 years, and he has played a major role in designing the OnePlus line of smartphones over the years.
One of them is the OnePlus Nord, a cheap cellphone that was recently launched. Outside of Shenzhen, China where OnePlus is headquartered, Pei has become a company icon. He frequently appears at trade conferences, interacts with loyal customers and faces media interviews.
Pei started his career at OnePlus with various marketing strategies designed to best position the company's products and create a sensation in the smartphone market.
If you remember, in 2014 and 2015, when OnePlus was struggling with scaling up its inventory, the company sold its phones by invitation and several other clever marketing techniques, including getting people to destroy their phones to buy new OnePlus smartphones.
In order to find out how the smartphone market in a country is, or to understand the needs of the market, Pei has stayed in cheap hotels in China and India. Hence, OnePlus is now one of the most successful premium smartphone makers in India and several other markets.
“We don't have proper product management. What we lacked in experience, we made up in a few hours, "said Pei in his interview at Disrupt 2019, as quoted from Techcrunch, Tuesday, October 13.
Pei also asked Samsung for help in studying the market, and offered to become an intern at the South Korean company.
"So, Samsung, today I have a proposal for you, let me take an internship at your company. Really. I would be honored to learn from your team how you can measure, run, and manage your business so successfully," Pei said in a statement. its official blog.
However, Pei didn't decide to join Samsung, but he had clarity on what he wanted to do next. He started his own business. Years before starting OnePlus, Pei collaborated with a friend and sold a white label MP3 player in China.
Until this news circulated, Pei and OnePlus were reluctant to respond to comments regarding leaving the company. It's also unclear where Pei will go after this.
