Ma'ruf Amin: Job Creation Law Improves Indonesia's Competitiveness

JAKARTA - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin said that the Omnibus Law on the Job Creation Law was prepared to improve Indonesia's competitiveness at the global level. At the same time creating new jobs in an effort to restore the national economy.

"The law is expected to increase the competitiveness of our country in global competition and become a gamble for Indonesia's credibility in the eyes of the world, especially trading partner countries and global investors, as well as creating new jobs," said Ma'ruf Amin in his speech. The 2020 Sharia Supervisory Board (DPS) Pre-Ijtima Sanawi seminar online from the vice president's official residence in Jakarta, reported by Antara , Monday, October 12.

Ma'ruf added that the law is also the government's response to the demands of the people who want to expand employment opportunities, reform the bureaucracy, simplify regulations, and create a conducive climate for investment and the business world.

The Omnibus Law of the Job Creation Law is a solution to investment problems and the business world, which has been constrained by bureaucratic complexity and overlapping regulations. This problem causes the investment climate in the country to be hampered and reduces the quality of Indonesia's competitiveness compared to other countries in Southeast Asia.

"This causes Indonesia to be unable to compete with other countries, such as Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam and Cambodia in terms of ease of investment which results in choked up in job creation," he said.

Previously, President Joko Widodo said the Job Creation Law which was passed in the DPR plenary session on Monday, October 5 would improve the lives of workers and their families.

Every year, according to President Jokowi, there are at least 2.9 million people of new working age or young people who are ready to enter the world of work. Coupled with the conditions of the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of job opportunities is increasing.

In the midst of the pandemic, Jokowi said that around 6.9 million unemployed and 3.5 million workers were affected by COVID-19. In addition, 87 percent of the total working population have a high school education certificate or below, so the labor-intensive sector needs to be expanded.

"So, the Job Creation Law aims to provide as many jobs as possible for job seekers and unemployed people," said Jokowi.
