Medan Police Bombs A Sign Of Radicalism Still Rampant
JAKARTA - A suicide bomb explosion occurred at the Medan Police, North Sumatra. The suspected suicide bomber named Rabbial Muslim Nasution was killed. Six other people were injured. The incident occurred at around 08.45 WIB. At that time, the police had just finished a rally and many residents were about to take care of the SKCK.
Presidential Chief of Staff Moeldoko said the suicide bombing by a young man in Medan was not a form of negligence by the government in overcoming terrorism. According to him, this action should raise public awareness that radicalism must be watched out for.
"It was not a mistake. This indicates that we all have to have the same thoughts. That is true in our midst," said Moeldoko, at the DPR Building, Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Wednesday, November 13.
"Currently, radicalism cannot be ruled out. Do not keep it repudiated, it is proof that we all need to be vigilant. This issue cannot be guaranteed," he continued.
Moeldoko admitted that day after day, the mode of terrorism crime is growing. This is because the perpetrators also learn about the habits that people do on a daily basis.
"I think the police are making improvements, looking at the existing procedures. Existing procedures, so there need to be changes because the modes of crime are constantly changing," he said.
Not wanting something like this to happen again, Moeldoko reminded the protocol at vital object posts and dormitories must be tightened up.
"They must also see the habits of the unit in carrying out their daily activities. For that they can disguise themselves and so on. Now these modes must be well recognized by all officials, so that later they may not happen in the future. "he said.
Strengthen deradicalization
Coordinating Minister for Political, Law and Security Affairs Mahfud MD said that in the handling of the bomb matter, which is currently known for sure, there is one perpetrator, four police officers and one civilian. However, there is still one person who is suspected of being the suicide bomber who managed to escape.
"One bomber runs away and is still chasing. I urge the public not to share or share, to spread the horrifying images. If you want to discuss the material, it's okay, but if it's pictures, don't make the impression of our violent nation and barbarity," he said.
Previously, DPR Speaker Puan Maharani said that the incident in Medan meant the failure of the deradicalization program. So that the program must be evaluated. Responding to this, Mahfud denied this.
"No (it needs to be evaluated). The deradicalization program is just strengthened. Because from a quantitative point of view 2017 and 2018 are much higher than 2019. This means that the level of anticipation is okay. But now there is an expansion of the subject. In the past, terror was an adult male but now there are mothers - mother. Then also involve the child, "he said.
"Now that means the quality is expanding, it's terrible. But the quality is decreasing. It means that the level of anticipation from security and intelligence is sufficient. Yes, it needs to be improved," he said.
