JAKARTA - PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional (KPI) continues to strengthen its steps to produce environmentally friendly fuel oil products.

This was marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) related to the supply of the Cilacap Refinery Green Refinery Project by KPI President Director Taufik Aditiyawarman with PT Gapura Mas Lestari (GML) President Director Heru Fidiyanto in early December.

This step is one of KPI's important and strategic steps in developing the green fuel business in Indonesia.

The Cilacap Green Refinery project is planned to process refined oil feedstock or Used Cooking Oil (UCO) with a capacity of 6,000 barrels per day to produce Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) and Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) with a total production estimated at around 300,000 kiloliters per year.

The Cilacap refinery itself is currently capable of producing HVO and SAF.

HVO is processed from Refined Bleached Deodorized Palm Oil (RBDPO) raw materials, which are named Pertamina Renewable Diesel (RD) and 100 percent comes from vegetable oil.

Meanwhile, SAF 2.4 percent of the raw materials for Refined Bleached Deodorized Palm Kernel Oil (RBDPKO) or from processed palm kernels.

The resulting HVO product will then become a blending component in diesel that has superior quality compared to biodiesel FAME, and is designed to meet the highest standards for use in countries with four seasons such as the European and American markets.

Meanwhile, SAF products from Green Refinery Cilacap are expected to support supplies for the implementation of the use of SAF in aviation industry fuel, in line with the Roadmap and National Action Plan for Industrial Development Sustainable Aviation Fuel.

Taufik Aditiyawarman emphasized KPI's commitment to energy sustainability and innovation.

"The Green Refinery project is not only about providing alternative energy sources, but also creating added value for the community, supporting local growth, and reducing environmental impacts," said Taufik.

Furthermore, Taufik believes that with the spirit of collaboration and commitment from all parties, this project will be able to overcome various obstacles and become a successful example in the development of sustainable energy.

"Let's create a better future for the nation and state," he said.

The Green Refinery project shows a significant contribution to the achievement of sustainability components related to climate change management (SDG 7 and SDG 13).

By processing UCO into environmentally friendly fuel, the project not only focuses on providing renewable energy sources but also plays a role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution.

The Green Refinery initiative in Cilacap clearly reflects Indonesia's commitment to a cleaner energy transition, as well as maintaining ecosystem balance for a sustainable future.

The signing of this Memorandum of Understanding is an important step to strengthen collaboration between the public and private sectors in achieving sustainable energy-based goals in Indonesia.

PT GML is one of the collecters and exporters of Used Cooking Oil (UCO) in Indonesia with more than 20 years of experience.

"The collaboration between KPI and PT GML with experience in supply chains ranging from collection to supply of UCO is expected to support and guarantee the supply of feedstock for the Cilacap Green Refinery Project," said Taufik.
