Chief Executive of Financial Services Business Behavior Supervisory, Education, and Consumer Protection OJK Frederica Widyasari Dewi revealed that the banking sector and financial technology (fintech) dominate the public complaints.

"Of the total complaints, 11,901 complaints came from the banking sector, 10,961 from the financial technology industry, 6,496 from finance companies, 1,322 from insurance companies, and the rest related to the capital market sector and other non-bank financial industries," said Frederica or who is familiarly called Kiki during a press conference at the OJK Board of Commissioners Meeting (RDK), quoted from ANTARA in Jakarta, Saturday, December 14.

In addition to complaints related to formal financial services, OJK also recorded 15,350 complaints regarding illegal financial activities during the period January to November 2024. Of these, 14,364 complaints related to illegal online loans and 986 related to illegal investments.

Kiki explained that 89.6 percent of the total complaints received by the OJK had been resolved through an internal dispute resolution mechanism. Meanwhile, 10.4 percent are still in the process of being resolved.

Furthermore, to increase consumer protection, OJK is active in eradicating illegal financial activities through the Illegal Financial Activity Eradication Task Force (Satgas PASTI).

By the end of November 2024, the OJK had stopped operating 3,240 illegal entities, consisting of 2,930 illegal online loans and 310 illegal investments. In carrying out its duties, the DEFINITE Task Force found and reported 228 bank accounts or virtual accounts used for illegal activities, which were then requested for blocking.

"The PASTI Task Force also found the contact number of illegal online loan collectors and had submitted a blocking of 1,447 contact numbers to the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs," Kiki said.

Therefore, Kiki emphasized the importance of public vigilance in interacting with financial entities.
