JAKARTA - PT Pertamina (Persero) explained its belief in developing the Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) business in Indonesia.

Director of Strategy, Portfolio, and Business Development of Pertamina A Salyadi Saputra revealed how the future plan to develop SAF in all Pertamina Groups, both in terms of technology, finance, and support from the government policy side. All of them are to ensure that the use of this SAF can develop in the Indonesian aviation industry.

"Pertamina is ready with SAF. From the Pertamina Patra Niaga side, it already has a Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA) and the Renewable Energy Directive-European Union (RED-EU) so that it can become a supplier or sell SAF," he said in a statement to the media, Friday, September 20.

He added that another effort is that Pertamina continues to process and upgrade from the refinery side so that in the future it becomes a green refinery so that it can optimally produce SAF.

The hope is that all of them are supported by elements of society, both Indonesia and internationally because the awareness of all parties can make this a future interest so that everything goes hand in hand.

Salyadi continued, Pertamina as a State-Owned Enterprise has a double role.

First, Pertamina has a mandate to support the government, especially in the field of maintaining national energy security.

Second, as a business entity, must be able to have a healthy and sustainable financial performance where in the future Pertamina will continue to develop an environmentally friendly fuel business. Assessing that SAF is a potential aviation industry business, Pertamina is seriously developing this business.

"Pertamina already has Biofuel materials such as B35 which are now very successful in implementing in Indonesia and maybe next will increase it to B40 or B50. From the SAF side, it has the advantage that Pertamina's market is not only domestic, but can penetrate the global market, and we believe it has a competitive advantage because Indonesia has so many potential natural resources that can be utilized," concluded Salyadi.
