JAKARTA - PT PLN (Persero) through PLN Nusantara Power (NP) subholding collaborates with Powerchina International Group Limited (Powerchina).

This collaboration was established through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for both parties to jointize the feasibility of developing wind energy potential in Indonesia.

PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo said the estimated total wind energy potential throughout Indonesia reached 155 Gigawatts (GW).

In addition to developing wind potential, the two parties also agreed on another development study. Namely, studies on the construction of offshore wind-powered plants in the Indian Ocean and the Pacific as well as other EBT-based generators such as hydro power, biomass, solar, and waves.

"President Joko Widodo has just inaugurated the largest PLTS in Southeast Asia. The Indonesian government and PLN have carefully mapped the potential for EBT in Indonesia. We already have the numbers. So with this collaboration, the potential will be unlimited," said Darmawan, Monday, November 13.

In line with Darmawan, PLN NP President Director Ruly Firmansyah added, collaboration with Powerchina is part of PLN Group's efforts to help the Indonesian government achieve its net zero emissions target by 2060.

This collaboration is increasingly important considering the large potential for EBT in the country.

"This collaboration does not only promise success in terms of business. However, it will have a significant impact at the global level and have the potential to change the face of the energy industry," said Ruly.

He felt that this collaboration would be very productive because he would focus on reviewing the potential of EBT in the country.

It does not stop there, a feasibility study will also cover its economic and technical aspects.

"We have the same vision to achieve success in this energy transition journey. We also hope that this collaboration will further enhance the strategic partnership between Indonesia's China in the development of wind energy and other EBTs to support Indonesia's energy transition," added Ruly.

Vice President Director of Powerchina International Group Limited, Zhou Jiayi said, his party is committed to the success of various projects to add the EBT mix in Indonesia with PLN.

He is optimistic that this collaboration will continue considering that many collaborations have been established by Powerchina with PLN.

Although Jiayi admits that in this collaboration, her party encounters quite a lot of challenges from a geographical point of view.

However, thanks to the strong commitment of each party and adequate technology, all these challenges can be overcome.

"We have a long history of working with PLN. Hopefully, soon we will test together and seek several additional strategies to increase the use of EBT in Indonesia," concluded Jiayi.
