Indonesia Promotes Blue Economy Program At The AIS Forum Summit

BALI - Indonesia through the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) is promoting the blue economy program at the Archipelagic and Island State (AIS) High Level Conference (KTT) for the Forum in Bali.

"Especially at the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, in terms of implementing the blue economy, we have outlined five main policies or policies. We also convey this to all AIS Forum participants," said Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, October 10.

The five main policies in question are expanding conservation areas because they involve climate change.

"So how can this marine conservation absorb carbon five times higher than those on land, as well as produce oxygen, and then as a natural breeding area for fisheries in the sea," he said.

Second, the quota-based fishing policy which will soon begin to be implemented in Indonesia. The PP 11/2023 rules regarding fishing in the sea have been issued.

The third is to develop sustainable aquaculture, both in coastal fisheries, marine fisheries and land fisheries, this is to support the five commodities that must be superior in the coming years, namely shrimp, lobsters, crabs, tilapia, and seaweed.

The fourth, he said, is the supervision of small and coastal islands which are also related to climate change.

"The fifth, as stated at an international forum, was included in last year's AIS forum that efforts had been made to clean up plastic waste at sea involving the participation of fishermen," he also said.

Trenggono said that the formation of the AIS Forum always refers to the UN Convention on Maritime Law, especially related to good global maritime governance.

There is a close connection with the sustainability of the AIS Forum Summit, namely feelings of the same fate to face the same challenge regarding climate change.

He further said that the formal legal framework outlined in the Leaders Declaration AIS Forum could encourage the strengthening of the AIS Forum into a more formal institution in the future.

Then, aspects of funding, knowledge, and experience should also be considered.

He also hopes that the participation of countries present at the AIS Forum Summit has the same perspective in managing, protecting the sea, including the resources contained by prioritizing ecology as commanders, but at the same time also paying attention to economic interests.
