PT Pertamina Trans Kontinental (PTK) supports the blue carbon ecosystem by planting 2,023 mangrove seeds of the type Rhizophora mucronata and inaugurating a nursery with a capacity of 2,045 mangrove seeds on Tuesday, September 26 in the Mangrove Lantebung Tourism Village located in Bira Village, Tamalanrea District, Makassar City, South Sulawesi.

This activity entitled "Green Mangrove Action Program" is a form of Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) or Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) of PT Pertamina Trans Kontinental under the pillars of Pertamina Transko Care Environment, namely the TJSL program which focuses on environmental conservation. The capacity of seed houses of 2,045 is in line with the government's plan to implement blue carbon transformation in 2045.

Senior Officer of Operation & Performance of PT Pertamina Trans Kontinental Makassar Rusdi Rizal, representing PTK management said that this mangrove planting and conservation activity aims to prevent coastal abrasion and maintain coastal ecosystems to support the blue carbon ecosystem.

In addition, through this activity PT Pertamina Trans Kontinental also seeks to empower the community and support mangrove ecotourism in Lantebung Tourism Village which is also one of the mangrove conservation locations in the Makassar area. This is done by providing stands for various mangrove derivative products produced by local communities.

"We are committed to continuing to play an active role in preserving the environment, especially in coastal areas. With the planting of mangroves and the support we provide for mangrove conservation, we hope to contribute to the preservation of coastal ecosystems and also encourage ecotourism and empowerment for local communities," he said.

As is known, mangroves are plants that have an important role in maintaining the balance of coastal ecosystems. Mangroves are also one of the alternative options in an effort to control the impact of climate change because mangroves can absorb large amounts of carbon dioxide and store it in stems and soil. So as to support the government in developing a blue carbon ecosystem.

The strong roots of mangroves also play a role in preventing abrasion and containing waves during high tides. In addition, the existence of a mangrove ecosystem is also a potential for ecotourism that can boost the community's economy.

To make this activity a success, PT Pertamina Trans Kontinental collaborated with the Green Mangrove Action Program fostered group and various stakeholders involved including the Makassar City Environment Service, TNI/Polri, Academics from Hasanuddin University, fostered groups, environmental communities and youth, community MSME groups, and local communities.

Head of the Biodiversity Division of the Makassar City Environment Agency, Azhar Anwar, who was also present in this activity appreciated the initiative taken by PT Pertamina Trans Kontinental in preserving coastal areas and it is hoped that this program can be sustainable.

"Thank you, we convey to PT Pertamina Trans Kontinental for the initiatives that have been carried out. Involvement, active participation, and synergy between the fostered group and the community are also important so that today's activities can be felt as a sustainable impact," concluded Azhar.
