Tanah Abang Market Traders Complain About The Decline In Sales, Minister Teten: The Products Can't Compete

JAKARTA - Tanah Abang Market Traders have complained about a decline in sales lately.

They said the decline began to occur during the last Lebaran moment.

Responding to this, Minister of Cooperatives and SMEs (Menkop UKM) Teten Masduki immediately conducted an inspection at Tanah Abang Market, today, Tuesday, September 19.

Based on the results of discussions with a number of traders, Teten said their products could no longer compete with online sales.

"Earlier I visited Tanah Abang Market, I heard that the average decrease (sales) was above 50 percent. Earlier we discussed (with traders), whether because they did not transform from selling in the market to online, it turned out that they had also transformed. They have sold online, but they cannot compete," said Teten at a press conference at Tanah Abang Market, Jakarta, Tuesday, September 19.

Teten added, based on the results of discussions with the Tanah Abang Market manager, PD Pasar Jaya, there is a possibility that the decline in sales will continue to occur.

"Earlier I discussed with PD Pasar Jaya, indeed this has decreased and the possibility of a permanent decline," he said.

According to him, traders at Tanah Abang Market must still be warned of this, although there is still an increase at certain times.

"Although at certain times, such as Lebaran, at the end of the year there is indeed an increase, but it is certain that the impact of the decline is permanent," concluded Teten.
