Jokowi: ASEAN Needs 29.4 Trillion US Dollars For Energy Transition

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said sustainable financing was needed to encourage the ASEAN region to transform into green energy. He said, at least 29.4 trillion US dollars were needed.

"ASEAN sustainable and innovative financing requires 29.4 trillion US dollars for the energy transition," he said in his speech at the opening of the ASEAN Indo-Pacific Forum (AIPF), at the Mulia Hotel, Jakarta, Tuesday, September 5.

"And an innovative financing scheme is needed through a profitable and sustainable partnership," he continued.

On this occasion, Jokowi also highlighted the funds used for digital and economic transformation (ekraf).

He said ASEAN's economy in 2030 would grow 1 trillion US dollars.

Therefore, Jokowi continued, the adoption of digital innovation needs to be strengthened to support the creative economy and micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

"I appreciate the contribution of the Asean state and its Asean partners so that 93 cooperation projects worth 38.2 billion US dollars have been collected, and 73 potential projects worth 17.8 billion US dollars," he said.

Jokowi said, the contribution collected reflects every member of the Southeast Asian region to build a peaceful, stable and prosperous Indo-Pacific.

"For this reason, the ASEAN Indo-Pacific forum is here to change rivalry in the Indo-Pacific into useful cooperation and build a habit of cooperation that won the formula without any feeling ostracized," he said.
