Jokowi Happy Inflation Controlled To Lower Than The US

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) appreciated Indonesia's inflation in July 2023 being controlled at 3.08 percent and recorded lower than US inflation.

"If we compare it with other countries, Argentina inflation is 113 percent. This is economic growth regardless. Turkey (inflation) 47 percent, India 7.4 percent. EU 5.3 percent, America 3.2 (percent), we 3.08 (percent)," Jokowi said quoting Antara.

Jokowi emphasized the importance of controlling inflation in addition to increasing the country's economic growth.

According to Jokowi, inflation control in Indonesia is a combination not only of the exchange rate, interest rate, price and availability of goods, but also through monetary and fiscal policies taken by the government.

The Head of State acknowledged that the monitoring of food commodity prices in the market is still under control, except for rice matters.

This is because a number of rice exporting countries, such as India, have decided not to export rice to maintain their domestic food security.

"I met the Minister of Bangladesh, the PM of India, so how come the price of rice doesn't go up, they don't export it all," he said.

In the National Coordination Meeting for Inflation Control, President Jokowi also gave awards as a form of appreciation to the 15 best provinces, districts and cities in controlling inflation.

The best Regional Inflation Control Team (TPID) at the provincial level in 2022, namely Bengkulu, DKI Jakarta, South Kalimantan, South Sulawesi and East Nusa Tenggara.

The TPID of the best regencies/cities in 2022 is given to Palembang City, Banyuwangi Regency, Tarakan City, Bone Regency and Kupang City.

TPID Regency/City excels in 2022, namely Tanah Datar Regency, Tasikmalaya Regency, Landak Regency, Minahasa Regency, and Sabu Raijua Regency.
