In Front Of Commission VII Of The DPR, The President Director Of PLN Shows Off Efforts To Reduce Carbon Emissions

JAKARTA - President Director of PT PLN (Persero) Darmawan Prasodjo conveyed a number of PLN's steps in reducing carbon emissions to members of Commission VII DPR RI at the Hearing Meeting, Wednesday, July 6.

Darmawan explained, until 2023, PLN has succeeded in reducing CO2 emissions by 50 million tons, from business as usual (BAU) of 334 million tons C02 to 284 million tons of CO2.

"We took the initiative to be able to suppress carbon emissions. We have made various decarbonization efforts because we are the locomotive of carbon emissions reduction in Indonesia", said Darmawan, quoted on Thursday, July 6.

To reduce emissions, continued Darmawan, PLN conducts co-firing technology at 37 PLTUs currently available.

Co-firing is the combustion of two different types of fuel simultaneously.

For PLTUs that are usually completely coal-fueled, co-firing is done by adding other fuels, such as biomass made from wood pallets or garbage. This technology is able to reduce carbon emissions to 1.2 million tons of co2.

The decrease in emissions also results from an increase in the efficiency of transmission and generating networks. This effort is able to reduce emissions by 10 million tons of CO2.

PLN also innovated by utilizing exhaust gases from gas and steam power plants (PLTGU) combine cycles to produce additional electricity. This effort is able to reduce the emissions of the 7 million tonnes of Co2.

"We continue to encourage the use of the EBT generator. The 2021-2030 Electric Power Supply Business Plan (RUPTL) that has been prepared with the Government is the greenest in history, where 51 percent of the construction of power plants will use environmentally friendly EBT", Darmawan explained.

Not only building new EBT generators, but PLN also replaces technology in PLTU which was previously subcritical technology to PLTU with supercritical and ultrasupercritical technology.

"This is able to reduce emissions by 15.4 million tons of CO2", added Darmawan.

He continued, PLN continues to be committed to making energy transitions to ensure a better life in the future.

"This was done not because of an international agreement, but to ensure future generations are better than today. We're doing. Because we do really care", concluded Darmawan.
