Canceled Host Of The U-20 World Cup, Employers' Association Calls This Loss

JAKARTA - FIFA recently officially canceled Indonesia as the host of the 2023 U-20 World Cup. This decision also eliminates the dreams of Indonesia and the U-20 Indonesian national team participating in the World Cup class stage.

Not only sweeping dreams, the failure of Indonesia to host also has other impacts, the Chairman of the Apindo DPN for MSMEs / IKM Ronald Walla said Indonesia's opportunity to get income in the business and service sector has disappeared.

"Yes, it is very unfortunate. Apart from being able to sell SME products and services offline and online, in my opinion, the important thing is that this moment is also an entrepreneurial competition," Ronald told VOI, Saturday, April 1.

Ronald said, Indonesia lost its income from the IKM/MSME sector of around Rp. 1 billion. This figure is obtained from the projection made by Ronald himself.

"Regarding rough turnover for each offline event that has the potential to be obtained depends on the type of business, such as food and beverages, souvenirs, and transport. Well, the capacity of 1 stadium is between 15-100 thousand visitors. Consider an average of 30 thousand visitors and for example 1/3 pays Rp. 100,000 for food, drink, transport, and souvenirs, it has conservatively reached Rp. 1 billion," added Ronald.

Furthermore, he said, he did not know the number of visitors further during the U-20 World Cup.

However, according to him, Indonesia was able to earn up to 3-5 times the income with the international football tournament.

"I don't know how many sessions in 23 days (the U-20 World Cup) and how many SMEs are allowed. In my opinion, 3-5x times can easily be obtained, that's for those who watch live, not to mention the workers in the stadium area," he concluded.
