Up 47 Percent, Minister Of Transportation Budi: 123 Million People Predicted To Go Home For Eid 2023

Minister of Transportation (Menhub) Budi Karya Sumadi revealed that there was an increase of 47 percent of the number of travelers this year from previously predicted 85 million to 123 million people.

"We report an increase in the number of our brothers and sisters going home from 85 million to 123 million people. This means that there has been an increase of 47 percent for the national community," he said at a press conference at the State Palace, quoted from the Presidential Secretariat, Friday, March 24.

Furthermore, Budi said that while Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi (Jabodetabek) increased from 14 million to 18 million.

"This means that there is an increase (of homecoming) of 27 percent in Jabodetabek. We do this with one caution, it can be said that the margin of error was less than 5 percent and last year was relatively the same," he said.

According to Budi, there are three main transportations that people can use for homecoming, namely air by plane, sea by ship, and land by motorbike, car and train.

"For air, trains and seas are relatively more manageable because the three dimensions are a means that use ticketing control of who buys it, but on land, we have to do one more detailed management effort," he explained.

Budi said that based on the results of his analysis, the origin of this year's travelers mostly came from East Java (East Java). Meanwhile, the most homecoming destinations are Central Java.

Furthermore, Budi said that of the total number of travelers this year, 22 percent will go home for private cars and 20 percent with two wheels or a motorbike.

"Well, the Cipali route is one that has the highest level of congestion and we have to use intensive traffic engineering," he said.
